Hey gang, it’s me again! Sorry its been a while but I had exams and all that kerfuffle!
I’m a bit late to the party but I’m finally jumping on the bandwagon, after inspiration from one of HeyAmyJane’s videos (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nq3bk0foziM) I decided to make my own rainbow highlighter.
Okay so a bit of background, an Etsy seller called BitterLaceBeauty started producing and selling rainbow highlighters on her Etsy shop and the internet went wild for them! However there is now a 9-10 month waiting list, I mean lord knows I love highlighters but 10 months really takes the mick. So I made my own…
You will need:
- Some old eye shadows in rainbow colours (this is a chance to use up those colours that realistically you’d never wear!)
- Isopropyl alcohol/rubbing alcohol (I already had this for fixing broken powders, it comes in very handy!)
- A cheap highlighter (I got one for £3 from MUA)
- Cling film
- A knife
- An old empty compact
The highlighter was so pretty that I didn’t want to stick a knife in it but the show must go on!
First, put down some cling film to make cleaning up a bit easier. Then choose your eye shadow and dig it out with the knife, tip it out onto the cling film and then add roughly the same amount of highlighter, use the knife to squash into a fine powder.
Add some of the isopropyl alcohol and mix into a paste. Use the knife to scrape the mixture into the empty compact, do this with the other colours until the compact is full.
Use bit of kitchen roll to absorb the excess liquid and shut the lid pressing down on the powder, once most of the liquid has gone, open the compact and leave to dry near a window.
I recommend applying it with a fan brush or if you don’t have that, use a powder brush, pinch the bristles and sweep it across the compact and onto your cheekbones. As you can see the result is a very shimmery light rainbow effect. I’m very happy with it and in all honesty it makes me feel like a magical unicorn and who wouldn’t want that?!
Let me know if you give this a try 🙂
