I’ve been dying to blog about this lipstick ever since I got it last Thursday but I’m trying to stick to a weekly post as it seems a bit more manageable! 🙂
Anyway, ladies and gentlemen this is the Illamasqua Lava Lips Marbled Lipstick in the shade Activist, I’ve been wanting to get my hands on it ever since Lily Melrose reviewed it in one of her videos a couple of weeks ago (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2Pif4BETXE). Illamasqua is well-known for it’s more ‘out there’ products and this is the first product of there’s that I’ve tried.
The packaging is quite nice but it doesn’t feel very luxurious which given the price tag of £19.50 I would expect a little more for my money. It’s quite sleek but also fairly light and because the plastic is glossy it does leave fingerprints.
Straight up it has to be said that this is the most interesting lipstick I have ever seen and I think the idea is genius. The beauty of this lipstick is that every time you apply it, it comes out as a slightly different shade. Each time it hovers around a pinky-purple blue toned colour, so you can’t always be see exactly how it’s going to look. I love how it looks but on the days where it’s more purple-y I can’t help but feel a little bit like that woman off the kids tv programme ‘Trapped’ from back in’t day! But it does actually smell quite nice sort of like parma violets/ baby wipes which isn’t very important for a lipstick but is a nice added touch.
As you can see it leaves a satin to matte finish, which is definitely my preferred finish when it comes to lipstick and matte lipsticks do tend to stay on a bit longer which is always a bonus!
I’d recommend wearing a lipstick like this with a fairly natural face and winged black liner on the eyes, this really helps to make the lips a focal point and stops you from looking too over the top.
Overall I really love this product and I’ll be wearing it a lot, I’ll also be looking out for when Illamasqua release more shades in the Lava Lips range!
