Hello, my fresh spring tulips!
To quote a character from the heart-warming feel-good film that is We Bought A Zoo:
“You know, sometimes all you need is twenty seconds of insane courage. Just literally twenty seconds of just embarrassing bravery. And I promise you, something great will come of it.”
Now it may or may not surprise you to know, I’m not the most confident of people. I’m often quite harsh on myself and I lack self-belief in a lot of areas of my life. I overthink and I overanalyze, which in the past has meant that I’ve given up before something has really had a chance.
There’s a lot of things that scare me.
Which is why I’ve decided each week I’m going to push myself to do something that scares me. Like earlier this week, at the gym, there were no treadmills free that I’d normally go on. Only the ones that face a mirrored wall were left, I usually avoid these because let’s be honest it’s just a bit awkward facing yourself in the mirror while you’re just getting redder and sweatier, I never know where to look! Do you look at yourself? No, that’s a bit weird and I feel a big egotistical. Do you look around the room? Well, you could do but if you’re clumsy like me you might lose concentration and fall off… Anyway, I did it! And I guess I just stared at my legs for most of it, it’s just a bit creepy making eye contact with yourself in public.
That was a bit of a sidetrack but you get what I mean, I’ve got a sort of mental list of things I’m avoiding or am too scared to do, I won’t tell you what they are because some are a little too personal and quite frankly embarrassing to share, they may not be problems for other people but I’m sure there are things out there that I’m comfortable with and other people may be too scared to try, when an opportunity comes up I’m gonna push myself to do one of these things on my list. It feels stupid saying this but I’m pretty sure we all have little things that scare us.
Why don’t you try stepping out of your comfort zone this week and see how you feel after?
